Sunsetting of Windows 7: What Agents Need to Know and Do

5 minutes

To ensure agents are up-to-date with current technology for their home offices, we’re letting you know the Windows 7 operating system (OS) soon will be no longer supported by Microsoft and Working Solutions.

If your computer runs Windows 7, released in 2009, you will need to update it to continue serving our clients and their customers.

This video by Justin Dumlao, manager of Agent Technical and Innovative Solutions Support, walks you through exactly what’s involved.

Important Dates to Know

On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will end mainstream support of Windows 7. It won’t publish security updates or fix any new bugs found after that date. Many companies, including us, will phase out support for the old operating system as well.

As a Working Solutions agent, here are the important things to know and do:

  • For new agents and any agents on new client programs, we’ll end on September 1, 2019.
  • For agents on all programs, the sunset deadline is January 14, 2020.
  • After the cut-off dates, you’ll be required to operate Windows 8.1 or higher—or you will no longer be able to schedule hours.

This needed OS upgrade will ensure we provide solid security to our clients.

Two OS Options for Agents

Now please, don’t worry. There are two ways and enough time for you to make the necessary change.

Option One – Upgrade the OS: Your first option is to buy Windows 10 and install the new operating system. Microsoft sells Windows 10 Home for $139, and Windows 10 Pro for $199.

To save money, this is an option. We don’t, however, recommend it, especially if your machine is older than 5 or 6 years.

Option Two – Buy a New Machine: Windows 7-era computers are a decade old. Windows 10 is designed for today’s technology.

For a little more than the price of an OS upgrade, you can get a machine that meets Working Solutions specs and still runs Windows 10 better than an older computer.

So, it’s best to get with the times and use current technology. Don’t delay. Should you have any questions, please contact me at jdumlao@workingsol.com.
