Clear Signs It’s Time to Become Your Own Boss

Most people dream of being their own boss at one time or another. It’s not for everyone, though. It can be hard work, filled with responsibility and requiring discipline, especially at the beginning.

If reading this doesn’t put you off, this is a clear indication that it’s time for you to consider being your own boss.

Check out these signs if now is the right time to take action for a more fulfilling, professional life.

  1. Despite the challenges, the thoughts persist. – Many people talk about good ideas for products or services, but they don’t go much further than that. If your ideas are not diminished by discouragement or the prospect of having to overcome obstacles, it might be time for you to be your own boss.
  2.

  3. Climbing the corporate ladder is unsatisfying. – Stephen Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” pointed out it doesn’t matter how fast or how high you climb if the ladder is against the wrong wall. If you recognize yourself in this, it might be time for you to get down and move your ladder.
  4.

  5. Who you are at work is not who you are at home. – Some people have a work persona and another persona for private time with family and friends. Sometimes, however, a large gap between the two can lead to feelings of inauthenticity on the job. It doesn’t have to be this way. As your own boss, you can work with values that you care about in a way that aligns with your lifestyle.
  6.

  7. Your job drains you. – According to Business Insider, the average person spends more than 90,000 hours at work. This time should be an investment that energizes us, but for many people, it’s a drain. If the idea of going to work doesn’t excite you, there’s something wrong. Being in the majority of the 87 percent of people in the U.S. who are passionless about their jobs, doesn’t make unhappiness acceptable. If you want to do something about it, being your own boss could be the answer.
  8.

  9. The idea of staying still is scarier than change. – If being in the same position you are in now in 10 years scares you more than changing, embrace that fear. Let it guide you toward a life that is more flexible, more fun and fulfilling.
  10.

  11. You’ve done the research. – It’s one thing to want something, but it’s another to work out how to get it. If you’ve already started researching being your own boss—and it looks like you have since you’re reading this blog—you are ready to take the next step.

Just remember the words of aviator and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who once wrote: “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

If you’re ready to plan, really make your dreams come true, do it. Now.

For those willing to work hard, make tough decisions, and then act on them, a more rewarding world awaits. You can be your own boss, in your own home, with a better work/life balance.

Be your own boss with us.
